Meet our staff 

 

Hands-On Health, established in 1996, is fortunate to have brought together a team of qualified and talented practitioners. Our massage therapists are from diverse backgrounds and offer a variety of techniques reflective of their training. All of our therapists are licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Massage Therapy and Hands-On Health also holds Establishment License #002 in the City of Cambridge. In addition we offer the services of highly experienced practitioners of Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and Cranio-Sacral therapy.


 

Our Massage Therapists:

* AMANDA: Amanda graduated from the Muscular Therapy Institute in February 2006. A member of Hands-On Health since that time, her work incorporates elements of Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy. She is also skilled in Therapeutic Massage, Prenatal Massage, Sports Massage, and Deep-Tissue Massage.

Hours: Monday 12-4:30pm, Tuesday 5-8pm, Wednesday 12-8pm & e/o Saturday 2:15-6pm

* ANDREA: Andrea has been at Hands-On Health since 1999, and a Masasge Therapist for over 20 years.  She is fluent in Portuguese and speaks some Spanish.  She is trained in Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Reiki, Sports Massage, Prenatal and Trigger Point Therapy.  Andrea is also trained in Lymphatic Drainage.  This treatment promotes positive effects on one's general health.  Special rhythmic hand strokes are applied as it reduces the chance of suffering from minor colds and viruses as it assists in decreasing infection.  It is also known to be very relaxing.  Lympatic Drainage acts as anti-cellulite treatment as it profoundly helps elimnate fat deposit, can soften dimpled skin, while it improves tone and texture.

* ANNIE:  Annie is a graduate of The Massage School of Acton and is skilled in Swedish, Relaxation and Deep Tissue Massage. Certified by MotherMassage® in Pregnancy Massage, she adapts specific massage techniques and positioning to each unique stage of pregnancy, including postpartum.

Hours:  Monday 4-8pm, Tuesday 12-4:30pm & Wednesday 3-8pm

 * DIANE: Diane graduated from Cortiva/MTI in 2008 where she honed her skills in Swedish/Relaxation Massage, Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy and Deep Tissue Massage. She incorporates a combination of these modalities in order to individualize each massage to meet her client's specific needs.  Diane is a Level II Reiki Pracitioner and volunteered in the Reiki Program at Brigham & Womens Hospital one day a week. She completed training in Oncology Massage in 2011 and works with cancer patients who have been out of treatment for one year or more.  She currently volunteers in the Hands On Program at Dana Farber Hospital one day a week. 

Hours: Monday 4:45-8pm, Thursday 4-8pm & e/o Friday 4-8pm

* HARIET: Hariet has been a massage therapist since 1999, after she graduated from the Utah College of Massage Therapy in Salt Lake City. Her bodywork skills include Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Reiki and Trigger Point Therapy. Hariet is originally from the Netherlands and is fluent in Dutch. Hariet has been at Hands On Health since March, 2000.

Hours: Every Saturday 10-2pm  &  Sunday 11-5pm

* HEIDI: Heidi specializes in relieving neck and shoulder tension and in helping you feel more at home and at ease in your body. She also loves helping pre & post-natal women feel as much ease as possible in their rapidly-changing bodies. Heidi's work is based in Deep Tissue Muscular Therapy, which she customizes for you by adjusting the amount of pressure and intention of touch. Her work has been described as a perfect blend of strength and softness. When not seeing clients for massage, Heidi loves making magic potions. Education & Training: Muscular Therapy Institute (2005), Advanced Pre-Natal Massage (2005), Myofascial Release (2007), Relaxation Massage and Massage for Clients in Cancer Treatment (2008).

 * JULIE: Julie is a 2009 graduate of the Cortiva Institute in Watertown, MA. Her body work is based on Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Reflexology, Swedish Massage, Pregnancy Massage and Sports Massage. Julie has been a volunteer at the Pan MASS Challenge Event by providing table massages for participants.  She is currently attending the New England School of Acupuncture for a Masters in Acupuncture. 

Hours: Every Sunday 11-5pm

* KRISTEN: Kristen is a 2007 graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute, Cortiva – Boston, She uses a client-centered, collaborative approach to design unique treatments tailored to the individual.  Kristen incorporates Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy and Sports Massage techniques to help clients meet wellness goals including stress relief and relaxation, injury recovery and prevention, as well as pain management.

* MARCIA: Marcia is from Brazil, where she received degrees in Biology and Genetics. While in the US, she studied massage therapy and is trained in Swedish massage, Deep-Tissue massage, and Sports massage. Marcia is also skilled in Myofasical techniques and Prenatal Massage. Marcia joined our staff in 2007.

Hours: Tuesday 10-2pm, Wednesday 4-8pm, Thursday 10-2pm, Friday 10-2pm, Saturday 10-1:45pm

* MOLLY: Molly completed her massage training at The Muscular Therapy Institute in 2002. She is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and also a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She was trained and certified in prenatal massage by Elaine Stillerman.  As a professional massage therapist, Molly’s intentions are:  to engage with her clients to achieve specific relief of pain and tension; to enhance enjoyment and ease of motion; to facilitate the movement of blood and lymph, and the cellular exchanges that are essential to our vitality; to provide comfort and confidence in the body. 

Hours:  e/o Friday 4-8pm

* SAM: Sam is a 2004 graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute. Holding dual certificates in Muscular Therapy (LCMT,NCBTMB) and as a strength and conditioning specialit (CSCS, LCMT), he specializes in massage for sports athletes and performing arts athletes. His work is characterized as deep, penetrating and thoughtful. Sam's work incorporates elements of Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Sports Massage, Orthopedic Massage and "Prehabilitation Work".

Hours: e/o Saturday 10-6pm

* SIERRA: Sierra is a graduate of the Muscular Therapy Institute and joined Hands-On Health in June 2004. In addition to muscular therapy, she practices Relaxation Massage, Deep-Tissue massage, and Sports Massage. Her work is influenced by Trigger Point Therapy and Myofascial Release techniques. Sierra is fluent in German and is a former ballroom dancer and instructor.

Hours: Friday 12-7pm, e/o Saturday 10-1:45pm and Sunday 11-5pm

* SOPHIA:  Also known as "Sophie" is a 2004 graduate from the Muscular Therapy Institute In Cambridge, MA.  Her style is integrative, combining Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage and applies components of Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy customizing each session.  Sophie's work supports individuals affected by daily stress that often causes chronic pain/muscle restriction in the body.  Sophie educates clients to deepen their understanding of how their work environment can affect posture, while causing muscle imbalance, and asymmetry.  She has advanced training and experience in Preconception, Pre/Postnatal Massage supporting expecting mothers during their nine month journey and beyond.  Sophie is a Reiki I Practitioner.

* SUSAN: Susan graduated from the professional massage therapy program at Cortiva. She tailors her approach to the client's needs, utilizing a blend of modalities and techniques which include Swedish/Relaxation, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Sports Massage and more. Susan is certified in working with people with special needs and her practice extends to Medical Massage, working with older Americans. She is sports oriented, has a regular Bikram yoga practice and plays Ultimate Frisbee.

Hours: Tuesday 4-8pm, e/o Wednesday 10-2pm, Thursday 12-8pm & e/o Saturday 2:15-6pm.

Reiki Services:

 * ASHLEY: Ashley is an Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master with 10 years experience in the realm of energy healing. She specializes in healing grief and loss as well as integrating the body, mind, and spirit. Ashley is an Edgewalker in the Shamanic tradition, a student of Tantra, and a full initiate in the Inkan Munay-Ki Rites. She is a proud member of the International Associate of Reiki Professionals.

Our Acupuncturist:

* Nancy Sposato: Nancy Sposato, Lic.Ac., holds a Masters degree in acupuncture, is Nationally Board certified, and also practices Chinese herbal medicine. She practices primarily Japanese-style (fewer, smaller needles, shallow insertion) acupuncture and also has a background in Shiatsu massage.

Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10-2pm (or as requested)

Our Chiropractor:

* DR. SIMON: Jonathan Simon, D.C. graduated from Harvard College in 1978, NYU School of Law in 1986, and New York Chiropractic College in 1990. He began practicing as a chiropractic physician in Cambridge in 1991, and established Hands-On Health as an interdisciplinary clinic in 1996. He has an eclectic approach, applying a variety of techniques as appropriate. His emphasis is on the release of holding patterns secondary to injury, trauma, and stress. He often uses Cranio-Sacral and related myofascial techniques and emphasizes movement patterns, weight-bearing, balance, and breathing. He is a classical pianist, professional soccer referee and occasional player.
